Program Description
The Center Star Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program is a 24-hour / 365-days per year community based treatment for individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illnesses that have caused them to have trouble with basic life functions such as self care, employment, and social and interpersonal relationships. With an emphasis in serving clients involved in the criminal justice system, our Center Star clients are eligible for services if they have current or recent justice system involvement with misdemeanor and/or felony charges, are in detention currently or within the previous year and are between ages 25-59.
Position Description
The Psychiatrist position is responsible for:
• Conducting psychiatric assessments and presents them at daily team- and treatment planning meetings;
• Supervising the treatment team in the comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history;
• Collaborating with registered nurse in assessment of physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians; and,
• Prescribing psychotropic medications and conducts regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects, providing patient education as needed.
• Bulk of ACT services are completed in the field
This position is accountable to the Program Manager regarding all performance matters.
Education and Experience Requirements
• A medical degree from an accredited medical school;
• Medical license, active, unrestricted, State of California
• Board certified or Board eligible in Psychiatry from A.B.P.N,
• At least two years working with chronically mentally ill adults with co-occurring substance abuse disorders; and
Working knowledge of Co-Occurring/C.C.I.S.C. principles.
