MHS’ STEPS Adolescent Program provides intensive day treatment mental health services for male adolescents (ages 12-18) with trauma reactive behaviors. Clients participate in treatment five days a week from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Client education is provided on-site by two San Diego Unified School District teachers and two instructional behavioral technicians. Students benefit from the small class size (no more than 20 students) and a teacher/student ratio allows needed assistance with their academics.
Intensive Day Treatment clients receive group therapy four times per week in addition to weekly individual and family therapy, community meetings, social skills building groups, medication assessment and monitoring. Our treatment addresses accountability; thoughts, feelings and behaviors related to and in response to the experienced trauma, coping skills and anger management techniques.
